Wow, has it really been THIS long since I've updated my blog? My apologies to my followers!
I truly have been just enjoying parenthood. Jarek has been growing so fast and is such a GOOD boy!
Our 1 month appointment had him weighing in at 8lb 15.5oz! That is just 1/2oz shy of 9 lbs. Now, I am guessing he is at least ten whopping pounds.
He also grew an inch and is, sad to report, officially outgrown of all of his newborn sized clothes and diapers. (those didn't last long at all!) Even the newborn prefolds are just barely able to fit around his waist. They will now be used as inserts. Stop growing my sweet baby.
Another topic I wanted to share, since I was struggling so much with nursing in my last posts, is that I also made it over the hump and I am 6 weeks plus, nursing. What saved my breastfeeding? A ten dollar flat piece of silicone called a nipple shield. For ANYONE out there that is in severe pain with a bad latcher, or has cracked and painful boobs, you WANT one of these shields! Get one that is a size down from your pumping horn size (example: I take a 24 pump horn, so I got a 20 nipple shield). This has saved my relationship with nursing. I actually look forward to feeding my boy now instead of dreading the pain. I also don't have to pump at 3am anymore, and I love just rolling to my side and falling asleep as he feeds.
Shields are perceived as "taboo", again, "natural, natural, natural", but you know what? don't believe naysayers. It has not only saved my breastfeeding relationship, but it has NOT decreased my milk supply. In fact, because I can comfortably leave him on longer now, I believe my milk has come in heavier.
Speaking of sleeping, little man varies between 1-3 hrs between feedings. 1 hour when he is cluster feeding (those are the hard days) and 3 hours on those amazing days. He loves his jammies with feet and I adore waking up to him.
He is just beginning to give a few smiles and let me tell you something about baby smiles...they MELT you. His smile is so cheshire. It grows from ear to ear and has the cutest little twist to it. Lady killer! They aren't common yet, seeing that he is only 6 weeks, but they will get there by the next 2 weeks.
In fact, in just a short while, he will be two months. Please stop the clock! How is it that I feel like I was just in labor?!
Other notes to mention: We are now mobile. Jarek is amazing on car rides, shopping and even visiting. Sadly, after just 5 weeks and 5 days, it appears I got my first period back. NOOOOO!!! I guess it doesn't matter that I'm breastfeeding, ovulation occurred. My luck! Some people go MONTHS without one after delivery...Lucky Ladies.
Holidays are coming up and I am so excited to share the holidays with Jarek and Matt. This will be our first official "family" holiday and I am beyond excited.
I got to do a visit with G last week and we met in a Dunkin Donuts. Imagine how cool it was to have THREE boys all about the same age! We got looks for sure. Her boys are soooo adorable and I know we have lifelong friendships already.
I've transitioned back to a few days of work here and there, but still staying on maternity leave. The hardest thing in the world right now, is driving away and leaving this little boy behind. :(
I will put some pictures below so you can see how big he is getting. I fall in love over and over, hundreds of times a day. More when I can, thank you for checking in, and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
